Again, a movie I have not seen and one that I cannot believe is likely to stand the test of time (Exhibit A, B, C: Dharmendra in dark paint because he is an ‘adivasi’, but fear not, a fair-skinned version is available in a double role. And please note, that the ‘adivasi’ girl is as fair-skinned as can be managed!)
Then, why this song? Because my Sahir Ludhianvi playlist threw it up, and I was intrigued. So, enjoy this denunciation of hypocrisy/duplicity in all walks of life. My advice would be to avoid watching the video. The dancers confuse me, dressed in Indian regional costumes apparently but performing Western steps and with seemingly no connection to the lyrics. Also, Dharmendra gives his fiercest angry young man vibe but fails to capture on screen the mockery evident in Mohammed Rafi’s lovely voice. Like my last post, this one too is for the singer and the lyricist, Rafi and Sahir. ~ R
