Parbaton ke pedon par

Parbaton ke pedon par shaam ka basera hain
Surmayi ujaala hain, champayi andhera hain

Dono waqt milte hain do dilon ki surat se
Asmaan ne khush hokar rang sa bikhera hain

Tehre tehre paani mein geet sarsaraate hain
Bheege bheege jhonkon mein khushbuon ka dera hain

Kyon na jazb ho jaaye iss haseen nazaare mein
Roushni ka jhurmat hain, mastiyon ka ghera hai

Ab kisi nazaare ki dil ko aarzoo kyon ho
Jab se pa liya tumko sab jahaan mera hain

I don’t know what this mood is but I am currently fascinated by depictions of nature in songs. Which probably explains my pick for this fortnight.
Although this one is also by Sahir Ludhianvi, this nature song is observed through the prism of romantic love. I also discovered, while I was looking up the details for the movie, that the song actually features real-life husband and wife, Kamaljeet (Shashi Rekhi) and Waheeda Rahman! (And this is the second song from the movie that we are featuring on the blog since S has already declared their love for Jagjeet Kaur with ‘Tum apna ranj-o-gham’.)
It is still a beautiful song, about evening on the mountains, a fading day and a dawning night and the colours they bring like lovers meeting, of songs rustling in the still waters of lakes, of fragrant damp breezes… These poets, they conjure up such visions! ~ R
