Azaad is the remake of the hit Tamil film Malaikkallan. When he wanted to remake the film in Hindi, the producer SHS Naidu first approached Naushad to compose its music.

He wanted all nine songs to be recorded in a couple of months, which was not possible as Naushad was busy. Naidu asked some other music directors, who also declined.

C Ramchandra, who agreed, successfully recorded all the songs within time. Although all the songs were hits, Ramachandra had to face many obstacles.

For instance, Talat Mahmood, who usually sang playback for Dilip Kumar, was unable to find time to sing this song. So, Ramachandra himself sang it. It is a simple, yet beautiful, song picturized at a waterfall on a dapper Dilip Kumar and lovely Meena Kumari. ~ S
