Raahi tu mat ruk jaana

Raahi tu mat ruk jaana
Raahi tu mat ruk jaana
Toofan se mat ghabrana
Kabhi toh milegi teri manzil
Kahin door gagan ki chhaon mein
Raahi tu mat ruk jaana

Mana ki gehari hain dhara
Par hain kahin toh kinaara
Tu bhi mila aasha ke sur mein
Mann ka ye iktara
Tu bhi mila aasha ke sur mein
Mann ka ye iktara
Kabhi toh milegi teri manzil
Kahin door gagan ki chhaon mein

Raahi tu mat ruk jaana
Toofan se mat ghabrana
Kabhi toh milegi teri manzil
Kahin door gagan ki chhaon mein
Raahi tu mat ruk jaana

Sabka hain uparwala
Sabko ussi ne sambhala
Jab bhi ghira gham ka andhera
Ussne kiya ujiyala
Jab bhi ghira gham ka andhera
Ussne kiya ujiyala
Kabhi toh milegi teri manzil
Kahin door gagan ki chhaon mein

Raahi tu mat ruk jaana
Toofan se mat ghabrana
Kabhi toh milegi teri manzil
Kahin door gagan ki chhaon mein
Kahin door, kahin door, kahin door, kahin door

Movie: Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein (1964)
Director: Kishore Kumar
Singer: Hemant Kumar
Lyricist: Shailendra
Music Composer: Kishore Kumar
Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein had Kishore Kumar as its director, producer, writer, male star, music composer, playback singer, and even part-lyricist. Was there anything the man couldn’t do?!
I am more familiar with ‘Aa chal ke tujhe’, another song from the same movie. So, this was a new tune for me. Also, surprisingly, Kishore Kumar, who has sung most of the male songs in the movie, chose to have Hemant Kumar sing this one, which sounds like the title track. Hemant Kumar does justice to the slow number in his lovely husky voice. And Shailendra’s lyrics are a reassurance: you will find your destination somewhere under the canopy of the sky. There is a place for all of us, the song seems to be saying, a shore for everyone battling deep waters, and a god to watch over us and dispel the darkness. So, harmonise your tune with that of hope (Tu bhi mila aasha ke sur mein, mann ka ye iktara). It’s a lovely notion, even if more romantic than real, but for today, we can indulge. ~ R
