Akela hoon main iss duniya mein

Akela hoon main iss duniya mein
Koi saathi hain toh mera saaya
Akela hoon main iss duniya mein
Koi saathi hain toh mera saaya
Akela hoon main

Na toh parwana aur na deewana, main kissi mehfil ka
Sooni sooni raahein thaamti hain baahein,
Gham kisse manzil ka,
Na toh parwana aur na deewana, main kissi mehfil ka
Sooni sooni raahein thaamti hain baahein,
Gham kisse manzil ka,
Main toh hoon raahi dil ka
Saathi hain toh mera saaya
Akela hoon main iss duniya mein
Koi saathi hain toh mera saaya
Akela hoon main

Jaise kabhi pyaare, jheel ke kinaare, hans akela nikle
Vaise hi dekho ji, yeh manmauji, maujon ke seene pe chale
Jaise kabhi pyaare, jheel ke kinaare, hans akela nikle
Vaise hi dekho ji, yeh manmauji, maujon ke seene pe chale
Chaand sitaaron ke tale
Saathi hain toh mera saaya

Akela hoon main iss duniya mein
Koi saathi hain toh mera saaya
Akela hoon main

It’s getting up to the time when one of the biggest annual marketing blitzkriegs is unleashed on us. The celebration of romantic love can be almost nauseating for those not in the same mood that the calendar dictates. So, here’s a song for the single people out there.
A young and handsome Dev Anand off on his bicycle with his fishing gear, happily single and enjoying life — seems like a fantastic ideal for all single people. Who cares about the destination, he (or rather the oh-so-mellifluous Mohammed Rafi) sings, when the paths reach up to embrace you? And the song ends with him under the stars on what seems to be a floating home for the night! Peak goals!
Of course, true to Bollywood, our single hero is not so alone at the end, but we can ignore that for now and bask in the joy of being single and enjoying life and not looking for romance or despairing the absence of it! Dev Anand, scenic bicycle paths, lake views, and Mohammed Rafi’s honeyed tones. For now, this will do just fine! ~ R
