Kya mausam hain
Ai deewane dil
Arre, chal kahin door nikal jaaye
Chal kahin door nikal jaaye
Koi humdum hain
Chahat ke kabil
Toh kiss liye hum sambhal jaaye
Chal kahin door nikal jaaye
Jhoom ke jab jab kabhi do dil gaate hain
Chaar kadam chalte hain phir kho jaate hain
Hey hey hey, aisa ho toh kho jaane do mujhko bhi aaj
Yeh kya kam hain,
Do pal ko raahi,
Arre, mil jaaye behal jaaye
Chal kahin door nikal jaaye
Yeh mastiyan, yeh bahaar
Dil ho chala bekarar
Main girta hoon mujhe tham lo
Bheege labon se mera naam lo
Duniya ko ab do nazar kyun aaye hum
Itne karib aao ke ik ho jaaye hum
Ke ik ho jaaye hum,
Ke ik ho jaaye hum
Ke ik ho jaaye hum
Khoye se hum, khoyi si manzil,
Achchha hain sambhal jaaye
Chal kahin door nikal jaaye
Achchha hain sambhal jaaye
Chal kahin door nikal jaaye,
Achchha hain sambhal jaaye

We are having lovely winter weather, and one hazy morning this week, I found myself looking out the window and humming this song. So, obedient to the prompting of my unconscious, here’s my emotion for the week.
I love the mood this song manages to create with its visuals. The present-day mild winter weather with mists over mountains that, at one point, transitions to snowy mountains visited in the past. And the last verse, voiced by the female (which annoyingly I cannot find on any video rendition), is particularly wonderful. The movie has older woman Rakhee finding herself attracted to younger man Rishi who reminds her of her dead lover, Shashi. And the last verse evokes the physical mist as well as her hazy attempt to substitute one man for another, making things so very murky.
I am not a fan of the movie or of Rishi Kapoor, but I do like this hummable tune. And the way it has been sung by three of the biggest names in the playback scene at the time and the way it was set to atmospheric music by Rajesh Roshan make this memorable. Have a lovely winter, whatever little of it remains. ~ R
