Yeh zindagi ke mele

Yeh zindagi ke mele
Yeh zindagi ke mele duniya mein kam na honge
Afsos hum na honge
Yeh zindagi ke mele, yeh zindagi ke mele

Duniya hain mauj-e-dariya, katre ki zindagi kya
Duniya hain mauj-e-dariya, katre ki zindagi kya
Paani mein mil ke paani, anjaam ye ke paani
Paani mein mil ke paani, anjaam ye ke paani
Dum bhar ko saas le le, dum bhar ko saas le le
Yeh zindagi ke mele duniya mein kam na honge
Afsos hum na honge
Yeh zindagi ke mele, yeh zindagi ke mele
Yeh zindagi ke mele, yeh zindagi ke mele

Hongi yehi bahaarein, ulfat ki yaadgaarein
Hongi yehi bahaarein, ulfat ki yaadgaarein
Bigdegi aur banegi, duniya yehi rahegi
Bigdegi aur banegi, duniya yehi rahegi
Honge yehi jhamele, honge yehi jhamele
Yeh zindagi ke mele duniya mein kam na honge
Afsos hum na honge
Yeh zindagi ke mele, yeh zindagi ke mele
Yeh zindagi ke mele, yeh zindagi ke mele
I think this is supposed to be a sad song, but I find it very uplifting. Thinking of yourself as a drop in the ocean of life puts things into perspective. And carpe diem then makes a whole lot of sense: dum bhar ko sas le le. I suspect the regret (afsos) that we won’t be around to enjoy the fair that is life is sarcastic since there is also the sense that this life is full of trouble (jhamele). So, my takeaway from this song is live today because you might not be around to enjoy tomorrow.
This is apparently the only song Mohammed Rafi sang in the movie but it is probably the most popular one in the movie. And it helped make him more popular too. Enjoy! ~ R
