Ae dil-e-nadaan...
Ae dil-e-nadaan, ae dil-e-nadaan
Aarzoo kya hai,
Justajoo kya hai
Ae dil-e-nadaan, ae dil-e-nadaan
Aarzoo kya hai,
Justajoo kya hai
Mmm...
Kyon bhatakte hain dasht-o-sehra mein?
Aisa lagta hai, mauj pyaasi hai apne dariya mein,
Kaisi uljhan hai, kyon yeh uljhan hai
Ek saaya sa, rubaru kya hai
Ae dil-e-nadaan, ae dil-e-nadaan
Aarzoo kya hai,
Justajoo kya hai
Kya qayamat hai, kya museebat hai
Keh nahin sakte, kiska armaan hai,
Zindagi jaise khoyi khoyi hai, hairaan hairaan hai,
Yeh zameen chup hai, aasman chup hai,
Fir yeh dhadkan si char soo kya hai
Ae dil-e-nadaan, ae dil-e-nadaan...
Ae dil-e-nadaan,
Aisi raahon mein kitne kaante hain
Aarzoo ne
Aarzoo ne har kisi dil ko dard baante hain,
Kitne ghaayal hain, kitne bismil hain
Is khudai mein ek tu kya hai
Ek tu kya hai ek tu kya hai
Ae dil-e-nadaan, ae dil-e-nadaan
Ae dil-e-nadaan, ae dil-e-nadaan
Aarzoo kya hai,
Justajoo kya hai
Ae dil-e-nadaan, ae dil-e-nadaan
Aarzoo kya hai,
Justajoo kya hai
Mmm...
Ae dil-e-nadaan...
Hum bhatakte hain,Kyon bhatakte hain dasht-o-sehra mein?
Aisa lagta hai, mauj pyaasi hai apne dariya mein,
Kaisi uljhan hai, kyon yeh uljhan hai
Ek saaya sa, rubaru kya hai
Ae dil-e-nadaan, ae dil-e-nadaan

Movie: Razia Sultan (1983)
Director: Kamal Amrohi
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
Lyricist: Jan Nisar Akhtar
Music Composer: Khayyam
Jan Nisar Akhtar, a celebrated Urdu poet, was born in 1914 into a family of prominent writers and Islamic scholars. He completed his post-graduation from Aligarh Muslim University and started teaching.
In 1949, he quit teaching and tried his luck in Bollywood. Akhtar first became popular with the film Yasmin in 1955. Like many of his contemporaries, Akhtar was also part of the Progressive Writers’ Association.
Apart from writing over 150 film songs, he published seven collections of poems and was felicitated for them. When his wife Safia died of cancer, a heartbroken Akhtar wrote a poem titled Khaak-e-Dil (Ashes of the Heart), for which he received the Sahitya Akademi award.
He died of a heart attack on August 19, 1976, in Mumbai. He was writing the songs for the film Razia Sultan at the time. Ae dil-e-nadaan was the last song he wrote. Akhtar has matched the soulful music perfectly with his contemplative lyrics. I feel that Hema Malini was not the best choice for this role. However, the song has been picturized well. ~ S
