This post is dedicated to Pandit Bharat Vyas, born in Rajasthan on January 6, 1918. I first noticed him from the many popular songs he wrote for V Shantaram films, such as Do Aankhen Barah Haath and Navrang.

I love the songs he wrote for the films Rani Rupmati, Goonj Uthi Shehnaai, Janam Janam Ke Phere, and Boond Jo Ban Gaye Moti too.

I chose this song because I love the word/name Saranga and because it fits the unjaane category. Besides, although this song talks of a lost love, it remembers the past with a fondness and not rancour.

The references to the mango tree and the peepal are classic Bharat Vyas. It is these little touches and the meaningful words that make his songs immortal. ~ S
