Thandi hawa, kaali ghata, aahi gayi jhoom ke
Pyaar liye dole hansi, nache jiya ghoom ke
Thandi hawa, kaali ghata, aahi gayi jhoom ke
Pyaar liye dole hansi, nache jiya ghoom ke
Pyar liye dole hansi nache jiya ghoom ke
Thandi hawa, kaali ghata, aahi gayi jhoom ke
Pyaar liye dole hansi, nache jiya ghoom ke
Aaj toh main apni chhabi dekh ke sharmaa gayi
Aaj toh main apni chhabi dekh ke sharmaa gayi
Jaane ye kya soch rahi thi ke hansi aa gayi
Laut gayi...
Laut gayi zulf meri honth mera choom ke
Pyar liye dole hansi nache jiya ghoom ke
Thandi hawa, kaali ghata, aahi gayi jhoom ke
Pyaar liye dole hansi nache jiya ghoom ke
Dil ka har ek taar hila chhedne lagi raagni
Dil ka har ek taar hila chhedne lagi raagni
Kajra bhare nain liye banke chaloon kaamni
Kah do koi...
Kah do koi aaj ghata barse zara jhoom ke
Pyaar liye dole hansi nache jiya ghoom ke
Thandi hawa, kaali ghata, aahi gayi jhoom ke
Pyaar liye dole hansi, nache jiya ghoom ke
Thandi hawa, kaali ghata, aahi gayi jhoom ke
Pyaar liye dole hansi, nache jiya ghoom ke
Movie: Mr. & Mrs. '55 (1955)
Director: Guru Dutt
Singer: Geeta Dutt
Lyricist: Majrooh Sultanpuri
Music Composer: O P Nayyar
Geeta Dutt’s birthday was on November 23. She is one of my favourite singers. I love her voice because it can exude a range of emotions from devotion to naughtiness, and innocence to sultriness.
We have already posted many of her songs. This song is close to my heart because it features yet another of my favourites, Madhubala.
It is an absolute joy choosing a song to commemorate her birthday. I don’t want to mar it by discussing her well-known life story and the oft-repeated tales of her tempestuous, tragic marriage with Guru Dutt.
Let’s just focus on her great voice and lovely singing. Salute, Geetaji! ~ S
