Jeene do aur jiyo
Chadhti jawaani ke din hain
Jeene do aur jiyo
Chadhti jawaani ke din hain
Phir aisa samaa milegaa kahaan
Ah, phir aisa samaa milegaa kahaan
Yehi zindagaani ke din hain
Marna toh sabko hain, jee ke bhi dekh le
Chaahat ka ek jaam pee ke bhi dekh le
Marna toh sabko hain, jee ke bhi dekh le
Chaahat ka ek jaam pee ke bhi dekh le
Yeh hawa, yeh fiza
Kehti hain dhoome macha le
Yeh hawa, yeh fiza
Kehti hain dhoome macha le
Koi phool chun, koi khwaab bunn
Dil ka muqaddar jagaa le
Marna toh sabko hain, jee ke bhi dekh le
Chaahat ka ek jaam pee ke bhi dekh le
Marna toh sabko hain, jee ke bhi dekh le
Chaahat ka ek jaam pee ke bhi dekh le
Yeh haseen zindagi
Hain ek raseela taraana
Yeh haseen zindagi
Hain ek raseela taraana
Na la dil mein gham, O mere sanam
Ke hain yeh khushi ka zamaana
Marna toh sabko hain, jee ke bhi dekh le
Chaahat ka ek jaam pee ke bhi dekh le
Marna toh sabko hain, jee ke bhi dekh le
Chaahat ka ek jaam pee ke bhi dekh le
Ho, marna toh sabko hain, jee ke bhi dekh le
Chaahat ka ek jaam pee ke bhi dekh le
Movie: Taxi Driver (1954)

I must confess, some search for Dev Anand led me to Sheila Ramani. I had not heard of her or seen her songs. Miss Shimla 1950, Sheila Ramani did not do too many films. Her short filmography is on Wikipedia. In fact, in Taxi Driver, she plays the supporting role but almost all the songs in the film feature her. She plays the role of a club dancer (and it is a very strange club, I must say, since it has little boys playing various musical instruments!). Of all the songs that feature her in this movie, and I watched all of them, I like her best in this one which ends with her gracing us with a wonderful smile. If she were alive, Sheila Ramani would have turned 87 yesterday, on March 2. Here’s remembering her and hoping that the philosophy of this song echoes: Live and let live! ~ R
