Man tarpat hari darshan ko aaj

Hari om, hari om, hari om, hari om

Man tarpat hari darshan ko aaj
Man tarpat hari darshan ko aaj
More tum bin bigre sakre kaaj
Ho binti karat hoon, rakhiyo laaj
Man tarpat hari darshan ko aaj

Tumhre dwaar ka main hoon jogi
Aaaa...
Tumhre dwaar ka main hoon jogi
Humri oar nazar kab hogi
Sun more byaakul man ka baag
Tarpat hari darshan ko aaj
Man tarpat hari darshan ko aaj

Bin guru gyan kahan se paaoon
Aaaa...
Bin guru gyan kahan se paaoon
Deejo daan hari gun gaaoon
Sab guni jan pe tumhra raaj
Tarpat hari darshan ko aaj
Man tarpat hari darshan ko aaj

Murli manohar, aas na todo
Murli manohar mohan giridhar, hari om
Dukh bhanjan mora sath na chhodo
Hari om, hari om, hari hari om
Mohe darshan bhiksha de do
Murli manohar mohan giridhar, hari om
Mohe darshan bhiksha de do aaj, de do aaj
Murli manohar mohan giridhar, hari om
Murli manohar mohan giridhar, hari om
Murli manohar mohan giridhar, hari om...

Movie: Baiju Bawra (1952)

Director: Vijay Bhatt

Singer: Mohammad Rafi

Lyricist: Shakeel Badayuni

Music Composer: Naushad

The thought of posting this occurred to me when the hungama broke out over Suhana Sayed, a Muslim girl, singing a bhajan. I didn't do it because this song means much more to me than a knee-jerk reaction to that ugly incident. The song was mentioned in almost all the articles published then because it is written, composed and sung by Muslims, who were known because of their talent and not because of their religion.

I love this song because it is written and sung so beautifully. The music is also typical of bhajans, especially when they are sung in worship. You can feel the yearning in the first part and a sort of frenzy in the last stanza when the tempo changes.  ~ S
