Yet another birthday-inspired song. Asha Bhosle turned 83 last month, so I decided to pay tribute by looking through some of her favorites. Please note, people, I love the younger sister more than the more acclaimed older one, so this tribute might extend beyond one song. With this song, it’s the sheer vocal dynamics that felled me. Even when I am humming this, I never attempt those high notes at the end. Wouldn’t want the neighbours crashing through the door looking to rescue me from grave danger! Although the song is carried along on Ashaji’s vocal cords and the lyrics might not have mattered, Majrooh Sultanpuri’s words make the song peppier, if that’s possible. ~ R
