This song reminds me of two uncles, both on the maternal side.

I heard this song for the first time when I was about three or four. One of my maternal uncles used to sing it or rather, hum the tune (along with many other songs). Ever since, I have associated it with him. He had a great voice (startlingly similar to Kishore Kumar's), and he used to sing extremely well. 

Much later, I saw the film and the song. I was already fascinated by Shashi Kapoor because he resembled my maternal granduncle, even down to those sharp, crooked teeth of his! I liked him in this song too. 

My uncle's singing prowess is long gone. My granduncle is no more. But the song still captivates me because of Kishore Kumar's voice. I feel that the female version is colourless in comparison. ~ S
